1 c. (16 T.) shortening
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs beaten
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. diced raw apples

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients except apples with mixer. Fold apples in with spoon. Bake in 9x13 greased floured pan. Also can use a 11x15 pan.

Topping: mix together 1/2 c. white sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 2/3 c. chopped nuts. Sprinkle over cake before baking. Bake 1 hour at 300º
Note- instead of buttermilk you can use sour milk. To make sour milk take 1 c. milk and add 1 tsp. vinegar. Let stand about 15 minutes.
